During WWII, the war was not just fought in one place. The war was actually fought across many countries in Europe, and over the Pacific Ocean. The battle grounds in Europe were mostly in Moscow, Berlin, Britain, Poland, Austria, France, and Egypt. Britain never had an invasion. It was only bombed by Germany. On the other side of the world, the war was fought over the Pacific Ocean and Japan. Japan's mainland was never invaded, but the surrounding islands were liberated by American forces. Japan's mainland was only attacked by the use of atomic bombs. Refer to the photographs on the "Countries" page to locate the battle grounds.
